Life for me has been so busy the last week or so. It was my last week in the Chancellor's Office and trying to close up the last few items on my to-do list. Friday the ladies took me out to lunch and margaritas. It was nice to end on that note. It was sad on one hand because I recognize that that office really helped me to develop my own personal and professional style and methodologies that will stay with me for a long time, because I truly made great friends while in that position, and because I knew that the things I was doing were important in a larger context. It was scary because change always is; who knows what challenges or personalities you will encounter. I have so many great memories from the Chancellor's office, and although it was not always the easiest place to work, I am sure that the difficulties will fade in my mind over time. And I know that I will get to work with and see all of my favorite people just as I did before, just maybe not as much. Walking away from the restaurant, I knew I was walking away from the end of an era.
That being said, yesterday was my first day in the Vice Chancellor's office. I was a little nervous but that feeling left me quickly as I remembered that I have been doing the same types of tasks for two years now, just with someone else and at a lower level, and at the end of the day I am good at what I do. The day was busy, filled with IT configurations and getting organized and jumping right into calendaring. I'm not settled in yet, but I am getting there. It will happen quickly I'm sure. I am excited for new challenges and the opportunity to grow. I am ready for a new beginning.
(side note: to top it off, I started my new beginning by actually changing my name from my maiden to married in all the payroll and email systems. New beginning indeed.)
